OUR HAUNTED LIVES

Provision of quality life in means of proper education, water and electricity are the part of core responsibilities of the Govt. as based on basic human rights as per the constitution of Pakistan.

Just as Parents are responsible for their children similarly the State & Government is responsible to look after each and every citizen of the Country. The state is bounded by its constitution for providing the following basic needs:

1- Clean drinking water & electricity.

2- Standard medical facilities.

3- Ownership of the welfare of the orphans, poor, older age & widow.

4- Adequate transport facilities including roads and mass transit systems.

5- Recreational options, like parks, sports grounds & others.

Despite the above mandatory responsibilities of State whether we term it as our own misfortune or fate, the so called leaders who are governing us for more than 60 years have failed to provide basic human needs.

At the time of creation our forefathers had not even imagined that a day would come when our beloved Islamic Republic of Pakistan will forcibly be converted into "Crisis Republic of Pakistan".

A common man is regularly facing water crisis, energy crisis, gas crisis, medical crisis, leadership crisis to name few while some of us have mastered the subject of crisis so much we are capable enough to create crisis of crisis.

From dawn till dusk we spend day after day in dealing with human made crisis. There is no doubt that our peace and quality of life has been robbed by inadequate leadership.

According to medical sources 8 hours of sleep is compulsory for every individual; however, this has become impossible for common man due to prolonged load shedding in scorching weather where already in Karachi over a thousand lives have been lost to heat strokes. I feel they actually know when one is about to rest when they decide to switch of the power as their timings are so immaculate similar to bed bugs who bite you just when you want to rest the most!

Even if you dodge the electricity crisis the water board chases you like Count Dracula, but here they are not interested in sucking blood but rather each and every drop of water from your home fostering the culture of paying high fees to private tankers.

Once upon a time we read stories about villagers who would line up every morning to collect & store water for the day; however, salute to the water administrators who wanted us to experience the beautiful life of village in 21st century in the metropolitan city, but with a twist. They replaced the ancient Mat'kaa" with water tankers and gallons - a more sophisticated feel for urban citizens.

Further the villagers could get free water by fetching from wells; however, we have to now "purchase" it from Tanker Mafia and newly introduced "RO Plants" & Water Shops in the name of mineral water.

It doesn’t end with just electricity and water shortage. No way are we allowed to cook food and run on cheaper fuel. A common house wife nightmare when she wakes up early to cook to avoid peak hours of gas load shedding. The CNG crisis extends from Karachi to Lahore and then right up to Gawdar. The country is rich in gas resources but the Government has not tapped the potential and nor able to handle the current resource properly making our lives deprived of common necessities.

While most developing countries leaders are taking measures to enhance their existing quality of life, I feel we are still struggling and coping with same issues that existed 60 years ago but now worsened due to neglect by the Government.

While utilities are scare and depleting the ruling society has turned a blind eye to problems of common man while filling their own pockets.

We cannot wait for the leaders to wake up rather the common man must stand for their rights and speak up and fight for them. If we do not demand our rights our lives will remain haunted and deplete of our basic rights which have been promised to us by the constitution.

Water Rising... Hopes Drying! Our Race Against Climate Catastrophe; A Crisis Story of a Broken Sky.

One can see from space how the human race has changed the Earth. Nearly all of the available land has been cleared of forest and is now used for agriculture or urban development. The polar icecaps are shrinking and the desert areas are increasing. At night, the Earth is no longer dark, but large areas are lit up. All of this is evidence that human exploitation of the planet is reaching a critical limit. But human demands and expectations are ever-increasing. We cannot continue to pollute the atmosphere, poison the ocean and exhaust the land. There isn’t any more available.             Stephen Hawking, Physicist & Author During my recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan from June 28 to July 9, 2025, I had the chance to witness the changing climate firsthand. I traveled through KPK, Skardu, Gilgit, Nagar, Hunza, Naltar, Basho Valley, Soq Valley, Kharmang, Haramosh, Kachura, and, etc , navigating key routes including the Jaglot–Skardu Road (JSR), the...

Functional Depression: Silent Struggle Behind a “Normal” Life

The strongest people are not those who show strength in front of the world but those who fight and win battles that others do not know anything about Jonathan Harnisch, The Brutal Truth Imagine waking up every morning, going through your entire day, attending meetings, cooking meals, helping your children with homework, replying to messages; all while carrying an invisible weight that makes everything feel harder than it should. You are doing everything right on the outside, but inside, there is a persistent emptiness, a fog that never quite lifts. This is functional depression. Functional depression, sometimes called high-functioning depression, is a form of depression where people continue to fulfill their daily responsibilities despite experiencing ongoing symptoms of depression. Unlike severe depression where someone might struggle to get out of bed or maintain basic hygiene, people with functional depression keep showing up. They go to work, attend family gatherings, and mai...

CPEC's Significance, Special Economic Zones in Pakistan & Risks of Chinese 'Debt-Trap Diplomacy'

"Sustainable development is the pathway to the future we want for all. It offers a framework to generate economic growth, achieve social justice, exercise environmental stewardship and strengthen governance..." - Ban Ki-moon The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a significant infrastructure and economic development project that aims to connect Gwadar Port in southwestern Pakistan to China's northwestern region of Xinjiang. It is often referred to as a "corridor" because it consists of a network of roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects that will facilitate trade, transportation, and economic cooperation between China and Pakistan. CPEC was officially launched in April 2015 when China and Pakistan signed various agreements to kickstart the project. It is part of China's broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to enhance connectivity and economic cooperation across Asia, Africa, and Europe. CPEC involves the con...
